Let's talk spring cleaning! Are you doing any spring cleaning right now? We have two opportunities for you to repurpose and recycle materials that may otherwise be in a landfill.

UTAH RECYCLING ALLIANCE, POP UP! CHaRMs

  • Saturday, April 22, from 10 AM - 1 PM

Bring hard-to-recycle items like mattresses, metal bed frames, batteries, packaging, styrofoam, decorative lights, and ski equipment to the zoo on Saturday, April 22, from 10 AM - 1 PM for the Utah Recycling Alliance's Collection of Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) event. See what items you can recycle at https://utahrecyclingalliance.org/charms. Please note that Utah Recycling Alliance will be in the main parking lot, and you will not need zoo admission.

GORILLAS ON THE LINE RECYCLING

  • Daily from 9 AM - 6 PM

Bring your old cell phones and small electronics to the zoo for recycling (for FREE!) and help protect critically endangered gorillas. Drop off your devices with Guest Services at the front office before May 1 and we'll send them to our campaign partner, ECO-CELL, for reuse or recycling.

What do gorillas and cell phones have in common? Coltan, a mineral, is a critical part of cell phones s and small electronics mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where gorillas live. Recycling old devices reduces the demand for coltan, leading to less gorilla habitat destruction and displacement. Recycling old electronics at Utah's Hogle Zoo also raises money to support our conservation partner, Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE).
